Welcher Weg Experiments from the Bohm Perspective

چکیده

We re-examine the claim made by Englert, Scully, Süssman and Walther that in certain ‘Welcher Weg’ (Which Way) interference experiments, the Bohm trajectories behave in such a bizarre and unacceptable way that they must be considered as unreliable and even ‘surreal’. We show that this claim cannot be correct and is based on an incorrect use of the Bohm approach.

Nonlocal momentum transfer in welcher Weg measurements

A ‘‘which-path’’ ~welcher Weg! measurement necessarily destroys the fringes in a double-slit interference experiment. We show that in all instances one may attribute this destruction to a disturbance of the particle’s momentum by an amount equal to at least p\/2d , where d is the slit separation, in accordance with the uncertainty principle. However, this momentum transfer need not be local; th...

What is erased in the quantum erasure?

In this paper we re-examine a series of gedanken welcher Weg (WW) experiments introduced by Scully, Englert and Walther that contain the essential ideas underlying the quantum eraser. For this purpose we use the Bohm model which gives a sharp picture of the behaviour of the atoms involved in these experiments. This model supports the thesis that interference disappears in such WW experiments, e...

Randomization of quantum relative phase in welcher Weg measurements

Welcher Weg (which-path) detectors where complementarity is enforced without altering the interfering beams are analysed in terms of the quantum relative phase. In such a case, the measurement disturbs the interference via random classical phase shifts. This applies when the interfering particles are atoms or photons. In the case of photons, the quantum relative phase coincides with the field p...

Resonance Energy–Exchange–Free Detection and ‘Welcher Weg’ Experiment

It is shown that a monolithic total–internal–reflection resonator can be used for energy–exchange–free detections of objects without recoils. Related energy–exchange–free detection of ‘welcher Weg’ is discussed and an experiment with an atom interferometer is proposed. The obtained results are in agreement with quantum theory. QUANTUM-CORRELATED LIGHT BEAMS FOR QUANTUM OPTICS AND QUANTUM CRYPTOGRAPHY Review of Recent Experimental Progress in Foundations of Quantum Mechanics and Quantum Information Achieved in Parametric Downconversion Experiments at IENGF1

We review some recent experimental progress concerning foundations of quantum mechanics and quantum information obtained in the Carlo Novero Quantum Optics Laboratory at IENGF. After a short presentation of our polarization-entangled photon source (based on precise superposition of two type I PDC emissions) and of the results obtained with it, we describe in more detail an innovative double sli...
